COS, a not-for-profit organization founded by Dr. H.T. Ma, is dedicated to “teaching the language of music” to children and teens. Its mission is to cultivate and nurture children and teach them teamwork and life skills through music learning and performing in orchestral and chamber music settings. The Children’s Orchestra Society consists of four youth orchestras on varying levels and ages, chamber music ensembles as well as musicianship classes. The Young Symphonic Ensemble is the top orchestra of COS, with members from age 12 to 18, drawing its members from the New York City Metropolitan area. The program will feature virtuoso violinist Byung-Kook Kwak performing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor. The Young Symphonic Ensemble will also perform Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Ballet, and COS’s 2015 Senior Discovery Awardees Alexandra Wong will perform Schumann’s Piano Concerto and Bassist Jakob Messinetti will perform the Bottesini Bass Concerto.
