Last week the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has selected two roads in the 15th Assembly District to be included in its Harsh Winter Paving Project.
This project, scheduled to begin in the summer of 2015, will fix and restore paved roads that were affected by harsh winter conditions.
At the beginning of the 2015 Legislative Session, I called for increased funding for the much-needed infrastructure improvements on Long Island and all across New York State.
I am thrilled that the state Department of Transportation recognized that the crumbling roads in our community are in desperate need of improvements.
Heading into this year’s budget negotiations, I joined many of my colleagues in the call for more adequate funding for much-needed road, bridge and highway repairs.
This is a step in the right direction for the infrastructure in our community and I hope other roads will also receive the attention that they need going forward.
The roads selected are located within the towns of Oyster Bay and North Hempstead: NY Route 25A (Northern Boulevard) from Glen Cove Road to NY Route 106 (Jericho Oyster Bay Road), and NY Route 106 (Jericho Oyster Bay Road/Oyster Bay Road) from NY Route 106/NY Route 107 split to NY Route 25A (Northern Boulevard).
To all of the commuters and travelers of these roads, please be considerate of the men and women who will be working to improve them. Remember to drive slowly and pay attention as you pass through areas of construction.
