Ronkonkoma Man Drowned at Smith Point, Cops Say

A 48-year-old Ronkonkoma man fatally drowned at Smith Point County Park on the eastern end of Fire Island shortly after noon Monday, Suffolk County police said.

A 911 caller reported that beachgoers pulled Kerry Agosto from the water and began performing CPR on him after he went swimming and was then found unconscious, floating near the shore at 12:15 p.m., police said.

Agosto was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
