Lake Ronkonkoma Crash Leaves Bicyclist Dead

A 51-year-old Bohemia man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle while he was riding a bicycle in Lake Ronkonkoma on Tuesday evening.

Suffolk County police said Luis Benitez was biking westbound on Portion Road when he swerved into oncoming traffic and was hit by a westbound Nissan at 8:11 p.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 23-year-old Ronkonkoma woman, was not injured.

Fourth Squad detectives impounded the vehicle, are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about this crash to call them at 631-854-8452.
