The American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York held its annual convention in Buffalo from July 15 to 18. During the convention, a very prestigious award was bestowed upon Florence Parrella, who is a long-standing Manhasset resident and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Manhasset Unit 304. Parrella was named “Unit Member of the Year” for the entire State of New York. This award recognized her above all other members within New York State for her dedication and commitment to the principles of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Parrella was nominated by Manhasset Unit 304 because of her willingness to go above the ordinary and respond in an extraordinary fashion, especially to the needs of the veterans, their families and our active duty military. She serves as Chaplain of the Manhasset unit and can be seen each spring throughout town and at the Memorial Day Parade distributing poppies to raise funds in support of our veterans and our active duty military and their families.
