Clearly Port At North Shore Vision

Weil093015ANorth Shore Vision is a mainstay in Port Washington and owner Scott Weil has been taking care of residents’ vision for more than three decades. Weil has lived in Port for 33 years. He opened his first and only practice in Port Washington. The practice was first located in rented space on Main Street. “I decided to buy as soon as the right property became available,” said Weil.

Weil owns the building on Main Street that North Shore Vision resides in and he takes care of the facade of the building with care and consciousness. The building has its own parking lot, which is a great convenience to shoppers. “We won a Golden Storefront Award,” said Weil. “I wanted the decor to have the quaint look of the town. The interior reflects the fashionable retail product line that we carry. But the showroom is also consistent with a quaint village.”

The practice has two doctors, three licensed opticians and two technicians. “The business has grown every year,” said Weil. “We keep prices competitive and offer great service, pricing and selection.”

Weil practices multiple disciplines in the field, including general optometry, contacts specialty and low-vision specialty. “We are also a pediatric vision specialist to deal with visual and ocular disorders. We practice the full scope of optometry,” said Weil.

Not long after opening his practice, Weil decided to go into the fashion aspect of eyewear. “We bring in exclusive brands of eyewear that weren’t in the area before,” said Weil. “That and service sets us apart.”
Weil is an active member of the Port Washington community and is currently on the board of the Port Washington Business Improvement District (BID). In the past, he was on the board of the Chamber of Commerce, the Community Chest and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington. He was on the founding committee of the Doctor’s Gym at the Landmark Building. Weil has also been active in donating to local churches, synagogues and civic organizations including the Parent Resource Center (PRC) and the Children’s Center. “I was the eye doctor at the Helen Keller Center to help the legally blind maximize their sight,” said Weil.

Weil093015BWeil and his wife have one child, who went through the public school system in Port. “He had a wonderful experience in the schools,” said Weil. “I love Port Washington. People come here and don’t want to compete with the Joneses. You can be yourself here. It’s a mix of ethnicities and cultures, which makes the town more unique and beautiful. Since I live in same town as I practice in, I get to know everyone.”

Weil continued, “Part of the secret of my success is being involved and volunteering in Port. I have customers that are five generations of the same family.”

Weil is originally from Brooklyn. He went to the New England College of Optometry. Weil is a first-generation college graduate. He said, “Education was the most important thing because my parents came from a Depression-era mindset. I’m the child of a Jewish mother who wanted to be able to say, ‘my son is a doctor.’ When I told her I wanted to be an optometrist she said, ‘do they call you doctor?’ I said yes and then it was OK.”
