As a supplement to its continuing character education curriculum, Charles E. Schwarting School in the Plainedge Public School District hosted a visit from three players on the New York Islanders hockey team.

The professional athletes, Frans Nielsen, Adam Pelech and Brian Strait, spoke to students about their experiences and discussed the importance of teamwork, hard work, perseverance and never giving up on a dream. They encouraged students to make the right choices in life, continue learning as much as they can from their teachers, parents and peers, and to reach for the stars. Nielsen, Pelech and Strait then answered questions from various students and also signed autographs for them during the special visit.
The Islanders’ visit provided Schwarting students with athletes’ perspectives about the value of determination at an early age.
