Local Athletes Win Awards In Blue Ribbon Runs

Evan Eisenberg of Bayville and Louise Kaufman of Locust Valley each won an award in the Blue Ribbon Runs for Prostate Cancer at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park on Nov. 15.

Eisenberg won the second pace award in the 40-44 age group in the 10 kilometer run, crossing the finish line in 45 minutes, 8 seconds. Kaufman earned second place honors among the women in the 55-59 age group in accompanying 5 kilometer run, crossing the finish line in 30 minutes, 52 seconds.

The Sunday of the run was one of those picture perfect mid-fall days, with temperatures around 55 degrees and bright sunshine highlighting the efforts of 500 runners and walkers to conquer their choice of the 5 kilometer or 10 kilometer distance—everyone working together at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park for better men’s health and to fight prostate cancer.

The efforts of Integrated Medical Foundation Executive Director Rhonda Samuel continue to meld seamlessly into those of the Greater Long Island Running Club efforts to make the Blue Ribbon one of the autumn’s best Long Island races, according to Mike Polansky of the Greater Long Island Running Club.

Key sponsors included Advanced Radiation Centers of New York, Advanced Urology Centers of New York, Abbvie, Chase and Know Error; product sponsors were All Round Foods, the Runner’s Edge, Apple and Eve and the Bagel Boss of East Norwich. Other  participating sponsors included Dendreon, Tolmar, Shiel Medical Labs, Wet Brush, Sanofi, Staples Advantage, Janssen and Coloplast.

“Special thanks go to Curtis Sliwa of the Guardian Angels, himself a survivor of prostate cancer, for his support and his inspirational words at the start of the event,” said Polansky.
