On Wednesday, Nov. 18, the Manhasset SCA held its annual luncheon at the North Hills Country Club. This year’s theme for the luncheon was, “An Afternoon in Paris.” Musical entertainment was provided by Rachel Chang, Alexandra Hong, Ryan Hong and Tomas Osses of the Manhasset High School String Quartet, which is directed by Lisa Leonardi.

Addressing the 200+ attendees during her welcome speech, SCA Executive President Lisa Grygiel explained that the theme was chosen months ago, and in light of the recent extraordinary events in France, requested a moment of silence to remember “those who lost their lives.” She added with heartfelt significance, “We hope that peace returns soon.” In addition to this verbal acknowledgment by Grygiel, small cards printed with a sketch of the Eiffel Tower and the words, “Wishing you strength for today and hope for tomorrow,” had been placed on each of the dining and display tables throughout the room. Grygiel went on to thank the luncheon chairpersons, Maria Herrington and Lauren Stipp, and all of the committee members who helped make this year’s event a success.

The SCA luncheon, always well-attended, is one of the two major fundraisers held by the SCA each year. The luncheon, along with the SCA Fair held in the spring, provides the bulk of the funding to support the wide variety of SCA-sponsored educational and recreational programs that help to enrich the lives of Manhasset children.
