The Great Neck Park District Board of Commissioners held a special meeting on Tuesday, April 19, at 8 p.m., at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave., to discuss current and future requirements for commuter parking. Officials present at the meeting included Great Neck Plaza Mayor Jean Celender, Deputy Mayor Ted Rosen and the entire Great Neck Plaza Board of Trustees, as well as a representative from the Town of North Hempstead, Stephanie Ciaccio, three from Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) bus and one from the Long Island Railroad (LIRR).
The Park District operates three commuter parking lots near the LIRR station. The current demand often exceeds the capacity of these lots. Expansion of the LIRR to Grand Central Station as well as additional housing under construction within the Park District will increase this demand. The district is examining potential ways to increase the number of parking spaces. The commissioners, with the help of Great Neck residents and town and village officials, hope to find various alternatives which commuters might use to get to and from the train.
