On Saturday, April 30, Residents For a More Beautiful Port Washington organized a spring planting and general beautification of the Krieger Family and Laffey Fine Homes gardens. Both gardens are located along Main Street in Blumenfeld Family Park.
The entire weekend was set aside for this project, but all the work was accomplished in just one day, thanks in large part to volunteers from Residents, the Krieger family and Laffey. The greatest help of all came from Andrew Russotto and his fellow Boy Scouts from Port Washington’s Troop 7.

Andrew and his two friends are all working towards their Eagle Scout rank and were invaluable in their efforts to remove a huge root from a dead tree that broke the retaining wall surrounding one of the gardens. The Scouts removed some of the wall bricks and used axes, picks and shovels to get the job done.
Special thanks also to Landscape Architect Kari Sorenson for donating her time in designing the garden renovation, including selecting new perennials and shrubs for both gardens, and also teaching the Scouts how best to approach removing the dead tree roots and repairing the garden wall.
