Lee’s Buddy Bench Breeds Kindness

Students at Lee Avenue Elementary School in the Hicksville Public Schools will always have a friend to play with at recess, as a brand new Buddy Bench near the playground is encouraging camaraderie and compassion among peers. At a special assembly to introduce the new fixture and its rules to each grade level, students learned that they can sit on the bench any time they do not have friends to play with. Appointed Buddy Bench Monitors—students selected weekly by teachers based on good behavior—will then come over to their peers on the bench and walk to the playground to play together. The Buddy Bench epitomizes the values of unity and benevolence that are enforced daily at Lee Avenue.
