Thanks to funding secured by the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board, the Kensington Police Department will be participating in two ongoing statewide enforcement initiatives: Buckle Up New York—Click It or Ticket and the Aggressive Driving Enforcement initiatives.
The Buckle Up New York—Click it or Ticket initiative is aimed at enforcing seatbelt usage. While the use of seatbelts is up dramatically from the 1985 level of a mere 57 percent to a record level reported in 2013 of 91 percent, the goal is to attain 100 percent usage. Enforcement began on Memorial Day weekend and will continue on Thanksgiving Day weekend.
The Aggressive Driving initiative pays particular attention to drivers committing a litany of aggressive driving violations.
The Kensington Police Department will dedicate officers to high-visibility directed patrol and traffic checks for each of these initiatives in the coming months.
