The Manhasset Board of Education met on June 2, the board awarded the 2016-17 transportation contract to convey students to/from home, school, field trips, athletic trips and summer transportation to Huntington Coach.
The new contract will result in an incremental cost of 10 percent due to the required relocation of the Huntington Coach buses from the Town of North Hempstead’s Bar Beach properties that resulted in increased costs associated with Huntington Coach’s acquisition of a replacement property.
Huntington Coach has been the district’s primary transporter since the 2005-06 school year, when the district’s voters made the decision to move from an in-district operation to Huntington Coach. During the 45-minute presentation and ensuing discussion, district administration and the board acknowledged the exemplary service that Huntington Coach has provided over the past 11 years. In particular, the district noted Huntington Coach’s emphasis on safety, their state-of-the-art award-winning green fleet, and video cameras on all their vehicles. Efficient and safe service has been provided within tightly controlled costs, as evidenced by the average annual increase of 1.74 period over the same period. The district’s projected 2015-16 transportation costs remain below those budgeted in 2005-06, without factoring in the costs that would have been incurred for the Manhasset School District to purchase a state-of-the-art fleet and video cameras.
