Students from Munsey Park and Shelter Rock attended the Middle School Student Leadership Institute recently. The 10 students from Munsey Park and Shelter Rock Elementary Schools attended this event sponsored through the Long Island Consortium for Excellence and Equity at Molloy College Suffolk Center.
The theme of the day was It’s Your Life: Dare to Dream Big Dreams. The day featured a keynote address by Hollywood actress April Hernandez Castillo entitled Your Voice is Your Choice. Presenters from the organization Coolspeak led breakout sessions where the students learned about becoming leaders and role models. Students also learned the skills and strategies needed to tear down mountains and embrace challenges in order to reach the summit of success.
The day was made possible through the support of Nassau BOCES, The University of Pennsylvania and Molloy College.
Samantha Pugliese is a tenth grader at Manhasset High School and a student in Mrs. Scaldaferri’s Italian class. She was awarded first place in a photo contest Food in Focus by the Italian American Committee on Education on June 18 at Eataly in New York City.
She also received honorable mention for an additional photograph. She was presented with a certificate by The Consulate General of Italy and photographer Francesco Tonelli. In addition, she was also presented with a gift certificate to Eataly and a signed cookbook.
