Movie: The Lady in the Van
The Bar Harbour auditorium will show a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie, The Lady in the Van. Based on the true story of Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith), a woman of uncertain origins who “temporarily” parks her van in Alan Bennett’s (Alex Jennings) London driveway and proceeds to live there for 15 years. Starring Maggie Smith and Alex Jennings (2015; PG-13, 1 hr 45 mins).

Barnes & Noble Weekly Storytime
Come to Barnes & Noble for storytime. Listen to a story and enjoy making crafts afterward. From 11:30 a.m. to noon at 5224 Sunrise Hwy., Massapequa Park.

Dog Biscuits for Donation
Earn one hour of community service credit when you make the dough and shape the dog biscuits at the Plainedge Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Take them home to bake them. Bakers will also decorate a bakery box that will be used when the completed dog treats are brought to a local animal shelter. Must register.

Drop-in Craft
Join at your convenience during the hour from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. No registration needed. The craft will be “Summer Skaters” in the Central Avenue children’s room for ages 3 and up.

Saturday, Aug. 20
Adopt-A-Battalion Soldier’s Drive
Come help put care packages together for troops overseas. Looking for personal care items, seasonings, hot sauces and items other than candy. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Island Knight of Columbus Council, 2 Eastgate Rd., Massapequa Park.

Scrabble
