The North Hempstead Women’s Golf Association has been celebrating with multiple tournaments and events. To start the summer off, the Member/Member Tournament was played. Every year it is a spirited, bracket tournament, and this year was no different. The duo of Mary Beth D’Angelo and Sue D’Agnes succeeded in coming out as the winners for the 100th year celebration, with runners-up Maureen Nicolosi and Janet Pavlides. Special mention to the medalists for the tournament, Mary Patrick and Suzanne McKenna.

In the week following, the women celebrated a former member who has stayed near and dear in the hearts of North Hempstead: Mary J. Hartigan. The Mary J. Hartigan Putting Tournament puts the women’s putting skills to a grueling test. This year, winners Karen Walsh and Eileen Bauer played the talented pair of Sheila Dunphy and Patty Millo. The match lasted 28 holes, but in the end it was the gorgeous weather and patio gathering which truly took the prize.

Rounding out July, the Governors Tournament was played over a two-week span. This tournament was also a nail-biter, going to a sudden-death playoff lasting two holes. Blanche Puglisi emerged victorious over a well-played two rounds by runner-up Mary Beth D’Angelo. It’s impossible to truly leave July without first giving a special congratulations to Elizabeth Chang for making honor roll by shooting a 78 and Dr. Vivian Aiuto for her hole-in-one!

Perhaps the most special event of the summer to date was the Mid-Summer Scramble, where 18-holers and 9-holers played together in a 9-hole scramble. The event rounded out with a dinner attended by not only the day’s golfers, but many others who came to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the club as women golfers. The dinner honored all the members, but made special recognition to the ladies that had been with the club for more than 40 and 50 years. The event really represented the spirit of the club and the North Hempstead family that has developed over the many years. The club is off to enjoy the course with many more special events to look forward to in August.
