The young season has been kind to the Floral Park football team as the Knights won their second straight game last Saturday, outscoring Valley Stream North, 35-13 in an offensive showdown.
After taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Floral Park padded their lead with two more touchdowns in the second frame, giving them a 21-7 halftime lead. Valley Stream got on the board again with a third quarter touchdown, but the Knights answered with touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the win.
Kyle Hilaire paced the New Hyde Park offense. The star quarterback was a perfect four-for-four in the aerial game, throwing for 99 yards and connecting twice with Michael Incantalupo for touchdown passes of 30 and 41 yards. Hilaire got the offense going with a four-yard touchdown run of his own in the first quarter. Liam Flanagan was the running star, totaling 158 yards on 13 carries. Cole Horan chipped in with 84 yards on 13 rushes and one touchdown, while Justin Lohen contributed with a 12-yard touchdown run.
On Sept. 10, the Knights got the 2016 season off to a bang with a convincing 28-7 home win over New Hyde Park. Floral Park was paced by Liam Flanagan who scored touchdowns on both a four-yard dive and a 45-yard gallop. He was assisted by Cole Horan who had 89 yards rushing on 9 carries and Justin Lohen, who ran for 84 yards. Horan starred on both sides of the ball, making eight tackles. Michael Mattich had nine tackles to lead the Knights defense. Quarterback Kyle Hilaire scored on a four-yard run and Tim Pipa ended the scoring for Floral Park with a one-yard dive.
Meanwhile, the New Hyde Park football squad bounced back from that earlier loss to defeat Glen Cove, 35-12. Steve Chambers had the best game of any football player on Long Island over the weekend. The talented running back scored five touchdowns, three on running plays and two on passes from quarterback Nick Pelligrino. Chambers’s offensive heroics were matched by a brilliant 85-yard interception return, which set up another New Hyde Park score. Brian Hoerter had 11 tackles as the Gladiators got on the winning board in a big way.
