Pickle Ball
Pickle Ball

The Floral Park playground is truly the “Center” of activity for the Village. Currently, the park hosts the F.P. Little League Fall ball, the Titans football, FPSA Screaming Eagles hockey, and the FP Youth Council Football programs. The very successful Recreation Department’s fall volleyball league entered its playoff and championship round this past week.

The Recreation/Pool Building is a buzz with activity all week with meetings and programs day and night. The tennis courts remain in constant use seven days a week with adult and youth lessons and residential play.

For those residents interested in an alternate version of tennis, pickle ball court lines have been installed on court 4. Pickle ball, using many of the same rules as tennis, is played with wooden paddles and a plastic ball. Currently pickle ball is very popular in New Jersey and Florida and although there is less running, tennis skills such as forehands, backhands, volleys and lobs are part of the fun of this up and coming game. One set of pickle ball equipment is available in the shelter house. Court time is limited to 90 minutes and the court is available on a first come-first serve basis.

The past spring the basketball and volleyball courts were patched and painted and this fall the multi-purpose rink and handball courts are getting the same face lift.

Starting on Nov. 7, the Recreation Centers hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.

As of Dec. 5, all playing fields will be closed until they reopen in April. As a reminder bikes, smoking, music devices are not permitted in the Recreation Center and a current VFP Leisure pass is required for the use of the facilities.
