Join the North Shore Land Alliance on Saturday, May 20, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for a nature journaling workshop for adults, held at the Wawapek Preserve in Cold Spring Harbor.
Whether you’re a casual nature lover, or a passionate outdoor adventurer, participate in this exploration of Long Island’s natural world with artist, naturalist and educator Jan C. Porinchak. He will share his knowledge and enthusiasm for all aspects of nature. As part of the hands-on workshop, attendees will learn first-hand how to identify plants and animals, and understand their habits.
In the first half of the program, Porinchak will teach simple, easy to master art techniques. Then participants will explore the beautiful grounds of Wawapek where they will use their new skills to record observations using an illustrated journal.
Porinchak is a Sierra Club hike leader, Cornell Cooperative qualified master naturalist and an instructor for the quality parks Master Naturalist Program. He is an art teacher at the Jericho Union Free School District. His science illustrations have been used for educational purposes by clients such as New York Sea Grant, Cary Institute for Ecosystems Studies, the Regional Plan Association and others. His work is featured on interpretive signage at West Meadow Beach and the Hudson River Walkway.
There is a fee of $10 per participant. Materials will be included. RSVP by Monday, May 15, by calling the North Shore Land Alliance office at 516-0922-1028 or by emailing amanda@northshorelandalliance.org.
