Commissioner, Chief Inducted Into Fire Department

Jan. 1 marked not only a new year, but new terms for the commissioner and chief of the Hicksville Fire Department. On the first day of the new year, at a ceremony at Hicksville Fire Department Station #1, Robert Dwyer was installed as the new incoming commissioner of the Hicksville Fire District.

Dwyer is a 45-year member of the department, serving as fire commissioner for 20 of those years. He is a lifetime resident of Hicksville, married with three children and two grandchildren. He has always been active in the community and is a member of the Northwest Civic Association and Knights of Columbus. He is retired after 37 years of working for the Town of Oyster Bay, five years with Nassau County and six with Local 15 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Also installed was Robert Telender, Jr. The 70th chief of the Hicksville Fire Department was installed by Commissioner John Menig.
