Police Vehicle Strikes Pedestrians On Community Drive

A serious motor vehicle accident occurred on Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. in which a Nassau County police offer driving a marked patrol car on Community Drive struck two male teens on foot. The vehicle and the pedestrians, wearing dark clothing, were both traveling northbound on a dimly lit portion of the roadway.

The 19-year-old pedestrian was transported by a police department ambulance to an area hospital with serious head injuries. The 17-year-old pedestrian refused medical attention at the scene. The police officer was also transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time. The vehicle was impounded from the scene for brake and safety inspection.
