Dwight Hall Rollins and Virginia Frances Elizabeth Rollins, née DiGregorio, will celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary on Feb. 27. They were united in marriage on Feb. 27, 1954, at St. Mary’s Church in Poughkeepsie, NY, near Wappingers Falls, Virginia’s birthplace and the home of her youth. Doe-eyed and innocent, Virginia was walked down the aisle and given by her father, Antonio, of Cugnoli, Italy, to Dwight. Seated on the left side of the church was Virginia’s mother, Maria, from Alanno, Italy, and their many family and friends. On the right side sat Dwight’s parents, Carle and Dorothy Rollins of Manhasset, NY, and formerly of New Hampshire, along with their many family and friends as well.

Dwight and Virginia (Ginny) moved to Manhasset within the first year following their marriage, and there lived and raised their four children: David, Carla, Patricia and Michael. From these have followed 10 grandchildren and even five great grandchildren. David and Rebecca Rollins of Keller, TX, have four children and one grandchild. Carla and Mark Villarreal of Winchester, VA, have four children and four grandchildren; Patricia and David Skiffington of Fairfax, VA, have three children; and Michael and Gereza Rollins of Charleston, SC, have two children.

Dwight retired from the Town of North Hempstead after 20 years serving as comptroller and finance director. Ginny retired from Union Free School District # 6 in Manhasset, after having taught Spanish there for more than 30 years. In retirement, Dwight and Ginny relocated to historic Williamsburg, Virginia, and later to Haymarket, VA, to be closer to their daughters, Carla and Patricia. Today, Dwight and Ginny make their home at Westminster Canterbury, a senior independent living community in Winchester, VA, and are looking forward to many more happy anniversaries.
