Library Budget Passes, Trustee Reelected By One Vote

Library ElectionCharles.Jettmar.38969It is said, in a democracy every vote counts and that was definitely the case in the Manhasset Public Library Trustee election held on Wednesday, April 11, where the incumbent won by a single vote.

The polls were open at 7 a.m., to allow for early morning commuters to cast their ballots, and closed at 9 p.m. Two Manhasset residents were running for the open seat on the library board. Charles Jettmar was running for reelection against William Hannan and the vote was 137 to 136 in favor of the incumbent. Jettmar was reelected for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2018. His expertise will be useful for the upcoming construction to provide more useable space for library patrons.

Manhasset residents approved the proposed $5,186,492 Library Budget proposed for 2018-19. The budget passed with a vote of 209 to 70, which represents an increase of 1.16 percent.
