This past rowing season was led by a strong senior contingent looking to stake Manhasset’s claim as the fastest class to pass through the boathouse. The class started with one goal in mind, to cement their legacy, and they did so in a dominating fashion.
This season, Manhasset High School Crew hosted the Long Island Scholastic Championship. The regatta included all high school programs, regardless of size, on Long Island in a 1500m race. Manhasset took first place in 15 out of 16 events and dominated the waterways. The varsity fours and eights led the way with record times, while the lightweight eights and fours continued their championship run from last year. This performance by the team parlayed directly into the New York State Championships.
The team competed in 12 events, with 10 crews making the state finals. They were led by the Men’s Junior 8, Women’s Lightweight 4, and the Men’s Senior pair, which all captured the New York State Championship. Manhasset’s boats led the way as the Men’s Lightweight 4, Women’s Varsity 4 and Women’s Freshman 8 all medaled in the top three for a berth in the National Championships.
This year the High School National Championships were hosted on the Cooper River, outside of Philadelphia, the same location as the Collegiate National Championships. Two weeks later, the Men’s and Women’s Lightweight 4 and Men’s pair qualified to compete against the top clubs in the country at the Youth National Championships in California. The three state championships brought the number of titles won by Manhasset High School Crew to 34 since the inception of the team in 2001.
