The Chinese American Association of North Hempstead and the Manhasset community came together to celebrate the Year of The Pig at the Manhasset Public Library on Feb. 10.
There was much music and dancing and young children were attired in colorful Chinese silk jackets and dresses to celebrate. As is customary, the Chinese dragon came to visit and toured the library, much to the delight of patrons.
Celebrated by more than 20 percent of the world’s population, Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important holiday to the Chinese, as well as to other Asians, including Koreans and Vietnamese.
There was traditional Chinese storytelling and hand-crafted paper cuttings, as well as Chinese calligraphy. The annual event is a favorite in Manhasset and as usual, was standing room only.
