Grace Derrick, a senior at General Douglas MacArthur High School from the Levittown Public Schools, was recently recognized by College Board for her exceptional performance on the Advanced Placement Research Exam which she took last May. Derrick received a five, the highest score a student can obtain on an AP exam and was one of only 111 students from around the world to earn every point possible on the difficult assessment.
The AP Research course is part of College Board’s AP Capstone Diploma Program which prepares high schoolers for college-level work. To enroll in AP Research, a student must first take AP Seminar which enhances students’ problem-solving, research, collaboration, writing and presentation skills. The AP Research course allows students to explore a topic of interest through a year-long individual research project and culminates in an academic paper and presentation.
