November is National Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month. Here Are Some Options on Long Island.

senior pet

November is National Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month, dedicated to helping senior pets find loving forever homes. Shelters and rescues across the country hope those looking to adopt a new furry friend will consider adding a senior pet to the family this month. Please help spread the word throughout November. Let’s help older pets start the next chapter in their lives together!

Available for foster or adoption through PAWS Long Island

Remi
Remi

Remi is a super sweet 2-year-old, 25-pound Pomsky. Her owner surrendered her last week due to a move. She is in foster now, but the resident cat of the home is not pleased about her arrival. Remi is good with other dogs, kids, and cats — if the cats like dogs. She is fully vetted, chipped, housebroken, crate trained, good on a leash, and good in the car. What more could you ask for?!

Bruno
Bruno

Bruno is a handsome Pittie mix, about 2 ½ years old. He’s very athletic and would do best with an active family consisting of adults and/or older teens. Bruno is fit as a fiddle and plays nicely with other dogs.

Peaches
Peaches

**Senior Alert** Peaches is a 10-year-old, all black German Shepherd who needs a home. Her family is moving and cannot bring her with them. She’s very sweet and loves attention. She also loves her food and treats! She is good with dogs, cats and kids! She likes walks and is good on leash. She is very healthy and very affectionate — she’d make a good TV pal or cuddle buddy!

Kelly
Kelly

Kelly is a beautiful 1 ½-year-old Rottie/Sheppard mix who is also super smart and well trained. She would be good for agility training and would thrive with an active owner.  Unfortunately, life experiences have taught her to be terrified of men.

Layla
Layla

Meet Layla. This pittie mix is only about 18 months old. She’s an awesome, spunky dog but she’s still a puppy. While she can chill when needed, she needs a semi active owner. Layla would be best in a home with older teens and adults. She’s crate trained, spayed and fully vetted too.

Rocky is an adorable true Lhasa Apso. He’s about 4 ½-yrs-old and has proven to be dedicated to his people but needs rules and boundaries in an experienced home. He is very well trained, but his new family will need to follow through.

Roxy

Red Roxy is a gorgeous 3-year-old Mastiff mix who is crate trained and house broken. She is super loyal and devoted to her people. She needs to go to an experienced, low traffic home.

If you have the space in your heart and home for any one of these cool canines, please contact PAWS-LI (Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society, Inc.) via email at [email protected] or call 631-306-4616.

Available for adoption at the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter

Pearl
Pearl

Pearl is a Female Domestic Long Hair Mix who is estimated to be around four years young. She was found as a stray, very thin, matted, and looking for food. Pearl has adjusted well to life in the Animal Shelter, and she is always happy to meet new people she can befriend. This outgoing beauty can fit in with any family, and she needs an owner who will shower her with the love that she deserves. Pearl would do well in a home that has other cats.

Julie
Julie

Julie is a gorgeous Female Domestic Medium Hair Mix who is estimated to be around 2-years-old. She lost her home when her dad passed away and her mom could no longer care for her. Julie is outgoing, playful, friendly, and is as sassy as she is sweet! She would prefer to be the only cat in the home, but she has experience living with a small dog in the past. Julie would make a wonderful addition to any family looking for some love.

If you are interested in meeting precious Pearl or Julie, please call 631-360-7575 for more information today!

Prince
Prince

One-year-old Prince (Adoption #H210405) may not feel like he’s living a charmed life yet, but NSALA is rolling out the red carpet to welcome this tabby royalty into their family at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. All Prince really needs to make him feel confident about his subjects is a little patience, some treats, and a blissfully quiet home with children older than 12. Soon Prince will be ruling your heart, and you’ll be quite content to be his loyal, royal subject!

Dorothy20and20Rum20Tum
Dorothy and Rum Tum

**Double Adoption and Senior Alert** Rum Tum Tugger (Adoption #H210443) isn’t a very curious cat. In fact, this shy nine-year-old is content to cuddle into his favorite sibling Dorothy Two Dots (Adoption #H210440). These bonded senior tabbies joined the rest of their cat family to begin a new life after they recently lost their previous home and owner. They lived their whole lives swapping cuddles together and we intend for them to spend the rest of their lives side by side, being adored by their newest hero. Dorothy is open to new experiences, and is often socializing with visitors, hoping for a treat — or 10! Her courage has encouraged Rum Tum to come out of his shell and make human connections. Through Dorothy’s guidance, Rum Tum has opened up his heart more each day. NSALA would love to find them a quiet, predictable home with children age 12 and older and adults experienced in helping fearful cats settle in for a smooth transition to their golden retirement.

Esme20and20Eagan
Esme and Eagan

**Double Adoption** After being rescued off the local streets, 1-year-olds Esme (Adoption #BF3765) and Eagan (Adoption #BF3766) needed a little tender loving care. They’ve enjoyed time together in a peaceful room in Bianca’s Furry Friends, and staff is thrilled with the quick progress they’ve made! Formally fearful Eagan is completely open to love and attention from cats and people alike. You’ll find her cuddling in a ray of sunlight with any of her friends, but she’ll follow you for her helping of treats. Esme has always been the more playful of the two. She’s still a little shy about lots of human attention which is why we’re looking for a home with children older than 12 and adults experienced in nurturing away the fear from beloved felines. You’re going to be just as smitten as we are as you watch these very bonded sisters discover the wonders of being members of a family at last!

Lilly20Allen
Lilly Allen

Lilly Allen (Adoption #H210318) makes everyone smile! That’s because NSALA knows how much she’s already survived, and although her past trauma makes her hesitant at first, her triumphant spirit overcomes her with the right offering of an ear rub or treat. NSALA vets tended to an injured leg when she first arrived. Now fully recovered, Lilly is looking for a committed family who’ll always keep her safe and surround her with love. Children ages eight and older will enjoy watching this sweet one-year-old mini-house panther learn about trusting them. With a little help from her new friends, Lilly Allen will be smiling in no time, and her family will too!

Gypsom
Gypsom

Two-month-old Gypsom (Adoption# LA1259) is just a gorgeous girl looking for a glorious home. If you’ve got a thing for tortie kittens, this southern rescue has no tortitude. She’s an easy going little one waiting patiently in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center for a ride to her furever home!

Galapagos
Galapagos

Whatever adventures Galapagos (Adoption #D48059) may have lived prior to his arrival at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, this weary two-year-old boy is keeping them secret from us. The past is behind him, and better days are ahead so all we really need to know is that he is expectant of gentle hands and patience from the new humans he greets. If your quiet home has room to welcome someone who would be content to put excitement behind him, Galapagos would love to fill any feline void you’ve been feeling. Together, you’ll make a wonderful pair!

You can visit any one of these adorable adoptables at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center or contact [email protected] to learn more about the adoption process today!

Available for adoption at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter

Hellie
Hellie
Hap
Hap

**Double Adoption** Hap (white male) and Hellie (brindle/ white female) are bonded siblings on the search for one great home. They came to the shelter in October after their owner was hospitalized. They are very sweet, friendly, social and playful dogs. They love each other and love everyone else too, which works out great because everyone who meets them, loves them too. It’s always tougher to find a home for a bonded pair, but they deserve to stay together, so please help them find their forever home. They are being recommended for a home with kids 13 and older, and they both like other dogs too.
