The North Shore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (NSHCC) held an event on May 4 at the Swan Club honoring international author, political consultant, and women’s advocate, Dr. Gexi Girón, as well as paying tribute to two outstanding Long Island women for their service to the community.

The event featured dining, dancing, and an awards ceremony. Also honored at the event were Veronica Renta Irwin, Esq., president of the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association and principal law clerk for the Nassau County Supreme Court and Connie Pinilla, Esq., vice president and counsel to NSHCC and a highly successful attorney and realtor with The Connie Pinilla Team Compass.

Born in Buenaventura, Colombia, Dr. Gexi Girón moved to Mexico in 1992. She holds a doctorate in political and social sciences and has served as an official in the government of Mexico, both at the federal and state levels. A mentor, writer, and consultant on political leadership and entrepreneurship for women, Dr. Girón read a few excerpts from her most recent book, Mujeres Para Gobernar (Women to Govern) at the Wednesday night event.

Dr. Gexi Girón was introduced by Veronica Renta Irwin, Esq. and both Irwin and Pinilla shared words of inspiration, noting their own journeys and reflections on their many years of service to the community.

In addition to awards and citations presented on behalf of NSHCC, citations were also present on behalf of Congressman Tom Suozzi and County Executive Bruce Blakeman. Herb Flores, executive director of the Nassau County Office of Hispanic Affairs, was also on hand for the celebration.

“We were very honored to have the community join us in celebrating these exceptional women,” said Ever Padilla, president of NSHCC.
