A 19-year-old Buffalo State College student from Baldwin was stabbed to death Friday night outside of a University of Buffalo dorm, according to police, who are searching for a person of interest.

Police have identified the victim as Tyler Lewis. Witnesses report the person of interest had significant facial injuries, including a large diagonal laceration across his forehead, and fled the area driving a black 4-door sedan following a physical altercation between several individuals, police said.

“This does not appear to be a random act of violence, but rather a targeted incident between known individuals,” UB Police Chief Chris Bartolomei said.

The incident comes after a Long Island dad was recently shot to death in Poughkeepsie while visiting his son at Marist College.

The stabbing occurred at Moody Terrace roadway near Richmond Quad (Ellicott Complex) on North Campus at 7:30 p.m., police said. The victim was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

UB President Satish K. Tripathi made counseling available to students effected by the fatality.

Tripathi said, “Please join me in extending our sincerest condolences to the victim’s family and friends, and to the entire Buffalo State community.”
