Adoption Mittens

8-years-young Mittens is a strikingly handsome little charmer. Mittens likes to form a bond with humans before he’s handled, and once he gets to know you, it’s nothing but head rubs for this little guy. His ideal home is with adults where he can enjoy sleeping the day away in his own comfy bed. Mittens would do best as a solo cat in a home where he can be spoiled. He even loves to watch humans work in the garden – little cutie!

Adoption G5

G5 has the biggest heart and just wants a home of his own. Found as a stray in 2017, his owner  came back but was returned in 2021. Then sadly, he was found in an abandoned house with squatters, in a crate without food or water. Now safe, G5 does great at the shelter. He loves meeting new people, playing in the yard, and learning new things. Thanks to a wonderful shelter volunteer, G5 takes foster field trips where he enjoys a good book and some couch time. The most ideal home for him will be with patient and savvy owners; young adults 17 and older; and possibly as a solo pet.

For more information about adopting Mittens or G5, please contact The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter Placement team at Adoption@hempsteadny.gov, Foster@hempsteadny.gov, Rescue@hempsteadny.gov or call 516.785.5220

He may not know it yet, but with your help, the best years of his life are yet to come.

Adoption Shakespaw

*Special Request* To cat or not to cat? That is the question! William Shakespaw has a tale to share, and lucky the family who gets to be his future audience. This four-month-old kitty was locally rescued, and despite some heart issues, has become the Bard of Bianca’s Furry Friends, scooting into the arms of his visitors, never turning down a good long nuzzle. William will need an echocardiogram in the spring, and possibly a balloon valvuloplasty to improve his heart health. He’s looking for a foster home that will lead to a furever home. Could that be yours?

Adoption Tio

When one-year-old Tio was rescued locally, he needed time with Animal League America’s vets to recover from outdoor living. Now fully mended, his heart is set on finding a forever home filled with love. If you’ve had cats before, you’ll be amazed by Tio’s determined spirit to win your heart and be your loyal companion. While his high energy may be too much for other pets, all Tio really needs is someone who finds his whimsical and delightful personality endearing.

Adoption

Meadow is a Labrador Retriever Mix who is just under two years old. She was brought to the Animal Shelter after she was found as a stray and never claimed. Meadow is sweet, outgoing, and she always has a happy smile on her face. She is full of energy and loves looking for new friends. Meadow is very well-behaved but can use a little bit of practice with her leash manners. Her energy can be a bit much for smaller kids and cats, so a potential home should keep this in mind. It’s time for the delightful Meadow to finally write a happy ending of her own.

For more information about adopting Meadow, please fill out an application https://www.townofsmithtownanimalshelter.com/applications or call the shelter at 631-360-7575 for more information.

Two-year-old handsome Harlem is a big, sweet guy with a huge heart to match! He is simply happy being around you all day and is very affectionate. Harlem’s foster has really helped him come out of his shell and he loves to play and roll over for belly rubs. He is incredibly food motivated and you can find him licking peanut butter out of his Kong. He is great with big dogs but not with cats or small animals.

Adoption

Macy will make a wonderful best friend to a kind and gentle person. She’s a shiny velvet-gray princess, who loves to lounge in a sunny backyard or cuddle up with you on the couch. She’s been a cherished pet all of her life, living first with a family with two teenagers and a large dog who are moving and unable to take her. She loves her toys, is very food motivated, is super smart, and easy to train. She’s already perfectly housetrained and crate-trained, knows a rock-solid sit, and is eager to learn so much more. She’ll cuddle up and protect you at bedtime which officially makes her the best potential best friend and guardian angel wrapped up in one!

Adoption JoJo

Jojo is a one-year-old charmer known as a true beacon of positivity and affection. Once a stray, he has transformed into a healthy and loving companion. JoJo adores every person he meets and quickly forms strong connections. Despite his challenging past, his resilience has shone through. He’s a great fit with other dogs and is perfectly at ease with cats. Weighing in at a comfortable 44 pounds, he’s a medium-sized bundle of joy. When it comes to walks, JoJo is a dream—he walks calmly on a leash without pulling. His house training is solid, and his barking is minimal. Who could ask for more in a pooch?
