The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, has announced the inaugural Tilles Jazz Fest, set to take place on July 20 at the Long Island University Post campus in Brookville. The one-day event will feature performances from 1 pm until late evening across four stages, including Tilles Center’s Concert Hall.
The highlight of the festival will be a concert by renowned saxophonist Branford Marsalis and his Quartet at 7:30 pm in Tilles Center’s Concert Hall. Marsalis, an NEA Jazz Master, Grammy Award winner, and Tony nominee, is expected to deliver an unforgettable performance.
In addition to Marsalis, the festival will showcase a diverse lineup of artists, including Matt Wilson’s Good Trouble, harpist Brandee Younger, pianist Sean Mason and his Quartet, trombonist Mariel Bildstein, vibraphonist Jalen Baker, vocalist Georgia Heers, and student ensembles.
“We’re thrilled to unveil this first-ever and first annual landmark event,” Tom Dunn, executive and artistic director of Tilles Center, said. “In collaboration with our friends at Jazz at Lincoln Center, we’re set to transform the beautiful LIU Post campus into a vibrant hub of music and fun on July 20.”
The festival will offer a variety of activities for the whole family, including an instrument petting zoo, food trucks, local artisans, and a jazz second line led by Mariel Bildstein.
“We’re so pleased to extend our longstanding collaboration with Tilles Center to create this exciting new event, and the lineup of artists are a who’s who of established and upcoming talent,” Georgina Javor, vice President of concerts and touring at Jazz at Lincoln Center said.
