On a misty but spirited June 9 at the prestigious Huntington Crescent Club, over 146 golfers came together to support Garden City-based nonprofit Life’s WORC. This was the 37th Annual Geraldo Rivera Golf Tournament. Despite the light drizzle, the energy on the course was high, and smiles were everywhere as supporters teed off for a compelling cause.
At the noontime shotgun start, Life’s WORC founder Victoria Schneps was joined by broadcast journalist icon Geraldo Rivera to thank participants. Vicki and Geraldo made an appeal for how important it is to continue this legacy of compassion and advocacy that has defined this event since its beginning. Schneps is the founding president of Schneps Meida, the parent company of the Long Island Press.
The occasion celebrated two prominent business executives: David Feldman, Life’s WORC Board Member and President of Imperial Cleaning (Amityville), and Angelo Angerame, CEO of Hudson Regional Long Term Care Pharmacy.
“Their leadership and commitment to our mission made them standout honorees and pillars of our community,” Schneps declared.
More inspiration to the day was communicated by Board member John Murn. He introduced enthusiastic participants from his Next Level program. This new project is creating employment, vocational, and career opportunities promoting independence for Life’s WORC adults.
A bonus highlight was witnessing an extraordinary feat: Life’s WORC Day Habilitation employee Kelechi Ezihie of Inwood made history by breaking a Guinness Book World Record. Starting Sunday, June 8th through Tuesday, June 10th, Kelechi played at Huntington Crescent for 35 consecutive hours! His perseverance, determination, and heart captured everyone’s attention.
“Kelechi, is a valued Life’s WORC team member, who reminded us of what’s possible when dreams are paired with drive,” said Life’s WORC Vice President Tina Moreno.
Future Life’s WORC special events include the July 27 Hamptons Soiree hosted by Vicki Schneps and Geraldo Rivera with special guest Bill O’Reilly. The Life’s WORC Annual Gala is December 12 at the Garden City Hotel.
