Hicksville Natives Help Bring Home Trophy

The C.W. Post Pioneers Men’s Lacrosse Team, coached by John Jez, won the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA on May 24.

With the 2009 National Championship, the Pioneers wrapped up their season with an 8-7 victory over previously undefeated Le Moyne College. Additionally, C.W. Post set a school record with victories in a season and benefited with the outstanding play of Hicksville alumni Brian Andrews on midfield and Richard Schmidt on defense.

Andrews and Schmidt began their lacrosse careers with Hicksville PAL Lacrosse in 1995 and honed their skills through school, club and tournament play over the years. Andrews and Schmidt, friends and teammates, expect to be back at Post next year to defend their title.

Assemblyman Rob Walker, a Hicksville native and C.W. Post alumnus who played on the college’s last championship lacrosse team, recently welcomed both the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Champions from C.W. Post and the Women’s Lacrosse Champions from Adelphi University to Albany. At this time, Walker congratulated both teams on their achievements; the Adelphi Panthers had a perfect 18-0 season, concluding with a 16-4 win over Lock Haven University under the direction of Coach Joe Spallina.
