Baymen Wrestlers Win Holiday Tournament

The Oyster Bay High School Varsity Wrestling Team started the 2011 – 2012 wrestling season in a very strong and impressive way.

With a great team effort, the Baymen won the prestigious Hank Paris Memorial Wrestling Tournament Championship competing against 11 other teams in Nassau County. Individual Championships were won by the following wrestlers; Ryan Arnel, Blake Meyer, Rob Morgan and Dylan Rankin. Rob Morgan also won the Most Pins Trophy and reached a career record of 100 wins in his finals victory.

Tournament runner ups were Elton Gonzalez and Ian Estevez. Jon Escobar placed fourth to help the team score 147 points and take home the Championship Trophy. It is notable that this outstanding team effort was achieved without stand out wrestler Jack Leguelaff who was suffering from a severe allergy attack day before the tournament and could not wrestle.

The Baymen are coached by Mr. Jay Davis, Mr. Doug Axman, Mr. Rob Piscitello and Mr. Mike Doria.

This is the first time that Oyster Bay High School has won this tournament. It is a tremendous victory for a small school. Rob Morgan’s milestone achievement of 100 wins is also a first for Oyster Bay High School Wrestling.

The Varsity Wrestling Team competed in their second Holiday Tournament of the season the weekend of December 10 at Bethpage High School. The Baymen had another impressive day entering five wrestlers into the finals. Jack Leguelaff won his first individual tournament championship of the season with a 10-0 decision, while Rob Morgan won his second tournament by pinning his opponent in the finals. Finalists and tournament runner ups were; Cassidy Exum, Elton Gonzalez and Blake Meyer. Ryan Arnel and Dylan Rankin placed third to end the successful day.

At this match, the current Baymen Wrestlers will be honoring all former Baymen Wrestling Alumni, as well as present senior wrestlers. The match starts at 4:30 pm in the High School Gymnasium.
