Water Conservation – Local Law 3-1987
We all want to keep the environment clean and green. However, I would like to remind village residents that although we want to have beautiful lawns and flowers, we must keep in mind the village’s law with regard to water conservation (Local Law 3-1987) is now in effect.
The restrictions are:
Lawn sprinkling and garden irrigation only from April 16 to November 30 of each year and only during the hours of 5 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 10 p.m.
The days a person may water are:
Odd numbered properties on odd numbered days.
Even numbered properties on even numbered days.
Properties with no numbers on even numbered days.
Automatic sprinkler systems:
All newly-installed systems must have moisture sensors approved by the department of public works. For more information please call 465-4012 regarding sprinkler systems.
Miscellaneous:
All home car washing must be done with hoses fitted with spray nozzles with automatic shut-off. Use of water for washing down driveways or walkways is prohibited.
Please cooperate by observing these restrictions. The police department has been requested to issue appearance tickets to those persons found to be in violation of this law.
Shop And Dine In Garden City – Support Local Merchants
I would like to ask you to do your part to support all businesses within Garden City. I would also like to encourage all residents and professionals within Garden City to shop locally. Your patronage will be appreciated and is needed.
Many residents consider shopping and dining in our business districts as “experience shopping” because they meet friends and neighbors along the way and have an opportunity to interact with them. This is in stark contrast to frantically dashing through the crowds in the mall or the big box retailers.
I encourage residents to make a conscious effort to choose Garden City as the place to shop and dine. Customer service, selection and quality are outstanding. While shopping or dining, let the merchant know that you appreciate them and all that they offer.
Keep in mind but for these merchants and businesses within our borders on Seventh Street, New Hyde Park Road and Franklin Avenue, you would have to leave the comfort of the village to dine, shop or even buy a newspaper.
Garden City Police Department – Well Check Program
In the Garden City Police Department’s continuing effort to provide service for residents and in keeping with the department‘s less than two minute average response time to emergencies, we wish to remind the residents of the police department’s Well Check program. This program is available to any senior citizen, a person with a disability, or to any person suffering a hardship. Police commissioner Ernest J. Cipullo has advised me that residents can contact the police department and be placed on its Well Check log. Each morning, a person who is placed on the police department’s log can call in to let us know if they are okay or in need of assistance. If a person who is on the list does not contact the police department, an attempt will be made to contact that person either by phone and/or in person. Any person who wishes to be placed on the Garden City Police Department’s Well Check log may contact the desk officer at 516-465-4101.
Board Of Trustees Meetings
The next board of trustees meeting will be held on Thursday, May 17 at 8 p.m. The meeting is held in the boardroom at village hall. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a firsthand perspective.
