The Carle Place Senior Center recently celebrateSeniorCenter Coverd its 50th anniversary. The group started in 1964 with just a few members and today, the weekly meetings at Charles Fuschillo Park boast almost 90 attendees and membership is over 160 local seniors. Twenty-six of these members are over 90 years old.

“Our main goal is to get senior citizens out of the house,” said Carle Place Senior Center president John Heslin. “We’re very active, and we have fun.”

Jo Corsini has been a member of the center for 16 years, joining after she retired.

“I enjoy getting together with other people, it’s good companionship,” said Corsini. “You get to meet people who live around the block from you that you didn’t even know before.”

Ann Williams echoed the sentiment, saying she enjoyed “seeing people she hadn’t seen since her PTA days,” and that she found the club a good source for finding out what was going on in the neighborhood.

“It’s very informative,” said Williams. “You find out what’s going on with crime, what businesses are coming to town and other local information.”

Members meet every Tuesday for games, crafts and coffee and cake. They also take frequent trips.Senior Center PIc B
At a recent meeting, the group received citations from State Senator Jack Martins, the Town of North Hempstead and Nassau County. The center also held a celebratory lunch at Westbury Manor last week.
