Kick-Off Healthier Habits

jumpSummer is around the corner. School will be out and what’s on the minds of women in Port are beaches, pool parties, swimsuits, skimpy summer clothing, and fun.

It’s the season to look and feel your best and after a long winter, we all deserve to. On May 15, two entrepreneurial women in town will put their heads and talents together to fuse a promising new program to jumpstart a good mental vibration this summer.

The program, called Deeva Dance Detox, was created by nutritional health counselor Sara Siskind of Hands on Healthy, and fitness and professional dancer Jasmine Sanker of DeeVa Dance studio, located at 8 Haven Avenue.

It’s a program that teaches women how to make healthier choices for their diet and how to have a blast while getting their heart beating faster with super fun, dance exercise.

“I thought Sara, who is also a nutritional health counselor, as well as a dancer in my class, would be the perfect combination to work with me in creating a two-fold program that would help women get healthy and meet their fitness goals,” said Sanker.

“It’s a five-day plan to learn how to jump start the ultimate feel good lifestyle plan that can make self-care fun and realistic,” Siskind said.
“This program is for people who are really ready to say goodbye to dieting, and have a great, fun workout that when continued will lose that extra bloat,” said Sanker.

Melissa Stolper has been following Jasmine in her high energy cardio dance class for almost two years. “Jasmine creates such a high energy feel in her classes,” Stolper said. “Her class takes over your mind and body—a true escape for an hour.”

But aside from wanting to improve her physical shape, Stolper wanted to work from the inside out. “Sara’s nutritional coaching coupled with exercising with Jasmine seems like the perfect balance,” Stolper said.

Stolper suspects that after the detox program ends, the good habits can only translate into more good habits for her entire brood. “I anticipate the benefit from the nutritional aspect will benefit my whole family,” she said.

For Connie Feiner, the allure of the DeeVa Detox program will be to get fit for summer.

“I am trying to become more health conscious,” she admits. “I want a healthier household too.” Feiner explained how she agrees with Siskind’s philosophy in that her program is not a diet—it’s a lifestyle.

“That to me is so much more realistic,” said Feiner, who has always exercised, but now, with having kids and running her own printing business, eating healthy all the time can present a challenge. “I’ve already done a few of Jasmine’s dance classes and they take a lot out of you—in a positive way,” Feiner said.

The DeeVa Dance Detox will offer a full five-day program with a complete rule of thumb for keeping that diet healthy and practical for that individual.

Siskind feels strongly that all could learn to make healthier choices during the course of a day. People need to learn how to choose real, natural whole foods with less snacking.

She says: “You can eat out and not feel guilty as long as you make smart, healthy choices.”

The proper diet won’t work wonders unless exercise comes into play. That’s where Sanker comes in, offering five of her popular cardio dance classes with no expiration date. You will sweat and achieve maximum fitness, then take home Siskind’s food shopping list, suggested recipes, and daily check-in emails.

“I will be offering my undivided support with 24/7 nutritional advice tailored to our clients’ needs,” Siskind said. For more details or to join the program, visit sara.siskind@yahoo.com
