Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello recently honored students from Mineola High School who have been selected as intel semifinalists for 2015. The students, Charlotte Ring and Monika Dharia, were invited to a meeting of the Nassau County Legislature to be honored and speak about their projects and the potential use of the research in medicine, the environment and other areas of our society. Although Dharia was unable to attend do to prior commitments, Rin represented Mineola High School in front of the legislature.

The Intel Science Talent Search is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. Annually, students entering the Intel STS compete for $1.25 million in awards. Only 300 students are announced as semifinalists each year. Mineola has had the distinction of honoring Intel semifinalists twice in the last five years; which is truly an accomplishment.

“I am proud to congratulate Charlotte Ring and Monika Dharia on being named Intel Science semifinalists,” Nicolello stated. “These awards in the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition are a testament to the students’ extraordinary talent and hard work, as well as the support and guidance they receive from the faculty at Mineola High School. The students’ achievements provide us with hope for a bright future for our society and world.”
