A 48-year-old Hempstead woman was fatally hit by an SUV while crossing Sunrise Highway in Massapequa on Sunday night.

Nassau County police said Elzire Presume was walking across Route 27 when she was hit by a westbound Toyota Highlander at the corner of Louden Street at 8 p.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide Squad detectives performed a safety inspection on the vehicle and performed a sobriety test on the driver but found no apparent criminality.
