Sponsored by the Port Washington Clergy Association, Rabbi Michael Mishkin, spiritual leader of Temple Beth Israel and chair of the Association, announces the 75th Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The 8 p.m. service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 35 Middle Neck Road, under the leadership of its resident pastor, the Reverend Ms. Laurel Scott.
Many of Port’s clergy will participate in the service to lead the assembly in song, prayer, scripture, and the reading of Barack Obama’s 2015 Presidential Proclamation in which he encourages “the people of the United States to join together…and give thanks for all we have received in the past year” (Presidential Proclamation, Nov. 20, 2015). The Thanksgiving message will be offered by Port Jewish Center’s rabbi, Alyssa Mendelsohn. Special music will be provided the UMC’s Music Director, Edmund Needham, the Chancel Choir, and others.
A freewill offering will be gathered for refugee and hunger relief. Worshipers are also invited to donate canned goods and non-perishables for our local food pantries sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima and St. Peter of Alcantara R.C. Churches. The good folks of the UMC provide refreshments following the service for a meet and greet. All, including children, are welcome to participate. The psalmist writes, “O give thanks unto the Lord, for Adonai is good.”
