More than 300 people gathered on a beautiful early evening this Sunday to welcome Hanukkah with the lighting of the grand menorah on Main Street. Starbucks donated coffee to the event, Everfresh of Great Neck donated latkes and jelly donuts, Maura Bros. donated the erecting of the 14-foot menorah as they do each year and Supreme Auto donated the repainting of the menorah so it looked like new. Thanks goes to the Port Washington Police for the security, Port Washington Fire Department for providing the light truck as they do each year and the Town of North Hempstead for providing the Show Mobile. Able Equipment donated the use of their lift for the entire eight days of the holiday. Special embroidered event scarves were given out to the first 200 people, donated by Adele and Michael Greif of EmbroidMe of Williston Park. The Schreiber High School Tri-M Music Honor Society students entertained the crowd.
