After a slow start, the Roslyn High School boys’ basketball team is back on track, winning their first two Conference A-III games to post a 2-0 conference mark and a 3-3 record overall as the Christmas break approaches.

The Bulldogs opened conference play with a convincing 80-67 home win over Roosevelt. At the end of the first quarter, both teams were tied, 17-17. But in the second frame, Roslyn opened up a double-digit lead, taking a 40-29 advantage into the locker room. Senior star Keandre Augustine had his best game of the season to get the Roslyn attack going strong. He scored 35 points, including four three-point goals. Augustine was assisted by Spencer Markbrieter, who had 10 points. In all, 10 Roslyn players ended up in the scoring column.

On Friday, Dec. 18, Roslyn traveled to Plainedge, where they upset the previously unbeaten Devils’ squad, 59-55. Once again, the Bulldogs came alive with a big second quarter, outscoring Plainedge, 22-12 for a 38-27 halftime lead, one that they never relinquished. Augustine had 12 points in the win. The big star was Jonah Tenner, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bulldog basketball squad is now playing winning ball. Show your support for these fine young men in upcoming games. On Saturday, Jan. 2, Roslyn will host Farmingdale for a 12:30 p.m. game. On Tuesday, Jan. 5, they will travel to South Shore High School for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
