Giant Lego Menorah At Synagogue

Lego122315DThe Community Synagogue recently held their annual Build the World’s Tallest Lego Menorah event, which more than 150 people attended. Children, who ranged in age from 2 to 13 years old, participated in building the menorah and watched with anticipation as the bases were hammered together, one on top of the other to create the stalk of the menorah.

When the menorah was completed, Rabbi Irwin Zeplowitz climbed to the top of a 15-foot ladder to light the candles and recite the blessings. He explained the meaning behind the candles of the menorah. Cantor Claire Franco joined in and led everyone in candle blessings and Hanukkah songs.

Before leaving, children made edible dreidels from marshmallows, pretzel sticks, icing and a Hersey’s kiss. Every child went home with chocolate gelt and a small dreidel. The event was accompanied by wonderful music and guitar from Stacy Kelly. Fun was had by all—young and old alike.

The Sisterhood of The Community Synagogue sponsored the event, led by architect Stephen Schwartz of Building Blocks Workshops.

The Community Synagogue of Port Washington, founded in 1952, serves 730 families and is Port Washington’s largest reform congregation.
