Approximately 100 PSEG Long Island employees, including John Cashin of Hicksville, recently participated in the Town of Babylon’s 12th annual Soldier Ride to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer commended Team PSEG Long Island’s efforts, which raised nearly $1,000 for the cause and earned it a “top 10 fundraiser” position.
Ninety-five of the record-breaking 1,200 participants who rode this year were on Team PSEG Long Island, including Cashin.
“What a wonderful opportunity it was to participate in the Soldier Ride with such a large group of colleagues from PSEG Long Island,” said Cashin. “I felt proud to support our veterans and active duty service members who have made sacrifices to keep our nation safe.”
Soldier Ride is an annual bike ride that begins at Babylon Town Hall, snakes through Copiague, Amityville, Lindenhurst and Babylon, and travels over the Robert Moses Causeway before ending at Babylon’s Overlook Beach.
Over in Brentwood, more than three dozen PSEG Long Island interns, including Ashley Peck, who works in the company’s Hicksville office, recently stepped away from their roles in engineering, finance, corporate communications, legal and other departments to support the company’s volunteer efforts.
The interns joined president and COO Daniel Eichhorn in planting seeds, watering saplings, weeding, mulching and tending Island Harvest Food Bank’s Giving Garden in Brentwood.
Last year, Island Harvest’s two dozen gardens produced 600,000 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruits, which were distributed to Long Islanders through its food bank.
“It is important that our interns experience giving back to the community during their internship here, because community service is such a big part of who we are at PSEG Long Island,” said Eichhorn. “We support our customers in ways that go beyond providing safe, reliable power; we connect with them through their interests and causes as well. Last year, our employees volunteered more than 26,000 hours, giving back to causes throughout Long Island and the Rockaways.”
Peck, who works as a PSEG Long Island Power Asset Management intern, said she greatly values the volunteer opportunities PSEG has provided her with.
“I am very much enjoying my time here at PSEG Long Island,” said Peck. ”It has been a learning experience both in my field of study and outside my field of study. Taking the time to volunteer has always been important to me, and it is amazing that PSEG Long Island allows us this opportunity.”
