A collection of new video games will be added to the Great Neck Library’s Library-of-Things and available for loan starting on National Games Day on Sunday, Nov. 9.
The games for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch include “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” “Pokémon Legends Z-A,” “LEGO Party,” “Hello Kitty Island Adventure,” “NBA 2k26” and “Super Mario Party Jamboree.”
The newly added video games will enable teens who cannot afford a new bestselling video game when it releases but still want to experience a trending game that can serve as a valuable conversation topic and point of connection with peers, a representative of the library said. According to the library, video games can help promote positive messages to youth who form valuable connections through virtual worlds.
The Library of Things is a collection of non-traditional items, such as tools, kitchen gadgets, games, and camping gear, that can be borrowed from a library, similar to how one borrows a book. The array of items for home, hobbies, and recreation can help communities save money, reduce waste, and share resources by providing affordable access to things that people may only need occasionally.
At the Great Neck Library, visitors can use an adult library card to borrow two items at a time for ten days. Items are available for loan at the Main Library and the Parkville Branch Library and can only be borrowed and returned to the same location. They can be reserved in advance or borrowed at the library. The loaning policies and guidelines are available on the Great Neck Library website: greatnecklibrary.org. For more information, please contact Great Neck Library at (516) 466-8055.
The library will celebrate National Games Day from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Main Library. The main library is located at 159 Bayview Ave.
