Dr. Victor Fornari of Northwell Health will present “Understanding the Importance of Emotional Self-Care” at Temple Beth-El of Great Neck on Monday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m.
“There is a greater understanding of the impact of stress on both physical and mental health,” said Fornari, vice chair of child and adolescent psychiatry at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, which includes Zucker Hillside Hospital and Cohen Children’s Medical Center.
Fornari, a Temple Beth-El member, is also a professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He previously served as president of the American Association of Directors of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
“Self-care is now a personal responsibility that each of us needs to accomplish in order to remain optimistic and to be able to flourish,” he said.
The program, sponsored by the Brotherhood of Temple Beth-El, will review current mental health concerns and strategies for overcoming related challenges.
Fornari is coeditor of “Evidence-Based Treatments for Eating Disorders: Children, Adolescents & Adults” and editor of “Psychiatric Nonadherence: A Solutions-Based Approach” and “Pediatric Nonadherence: A Solutions-Based Approach.”
The event is free and open to the community. Refreshments will be served.
