The Holy Trinity High School Varsity boys basketball team captured the state championship on Sunday, March 8, at Erie Community College, defeating their opponent, Canisius, 57–52 in a thrilling finale that capped a season defined by leadership, depth, and standout performances.
The Titans were led by MVP Tristan Thomas, whose consistent scoring, playmaking and leadership anchored the team all season. Jager Verzosa, known for his sharpshooting from beyond the arc and a commitment to Molloy College, added crucial three-pointers when it mattered most.
Junior Emmanuel Ayeye played a major role in the Titans’ success this season, emerging as one of the team’s most impactful players. His ability to contribute on both ends of the floor and perform in key moments helped anchor the team throughout the year.
Junior brothers Myles Reid and Ryan Reid also formed an important part of the Titans’ starting lineup, bringing toughness, consistency and key defensive work that helped stifle opponents throughout the game.
Adding to the team’s promising future was sophomore Makhi Reeves, who gained valuable experience and made meaningful contributions while competing alongside the team’s upperclassmen.
The Titans’ championship run was also powered by the remaining players who made key contributions throughout the season: J.R. Heredia, Tan Zhang, Nick Delva, Joseph Jennings, Carter Dean, Bryce Satterthwaite, Dillon Miller, and Kameron Taylor. Each player brought energy, effort, and commitment to practices and games, helping to create the strong team culture that made Holy Trinity a championship contender.
Team captain Thomas and Verzosa led a balanced starting lineup that combined experience, skill, and teamwork. The Reid brothers’ defensive intensity and Emmanuel Ayeye’s all-around play were complemented by the contributions of the entire roster, demonstrating the depth and unity of the program.
The team was guided by first-year head coach Stephen Gnus and a dedicated coaching staff, including James Golaszewski, whose leadership, preparation, and mentorship were instrumental in shaping a championship‑caliber squad.
The 57–52 victory against Canisius at Erie Community College not only crowns a successful season for the Titans but also reflects the culture of discipline, teamwork, and excellence that Holy Trinity basketball embodies.
