North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and the Town Board announced that the town is again partnering with AARP to offer residents defensive driving classes throughout the year at Clinton G. Martin Park.

AARP offers defensive driving courses to help refresh residents’ driving skills, with the possibility of reducing auto insurance costs. The classes teach several key tactics, including managing speed, anticipating the actions of other drivers, staying alert and distraction-free, maintaining a safe following distance, and adjusting driving for road and weather conditions.

“It’s never a bad time to brush up on your driving skills, and we’re happy to offer residents of all ages these convenient classes at CGM,” DeSena said. “With more people on the road than ever before, I highly encourage my neighbors to take this refresher course.”

“We’ve all experienced those signature Long Island traffic jams, and if you’re like me, sometimes you wish there were better drivers on these roads,” Council Member Dennis Walsh said. “This course is a great way to stay sharp and stay safe on our roads, no matter the conditions.”

The classes will be held at Clinton G. Martin Park from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following dates:

Saturday, March 21

Saturday, April 18

Saturday, May 30

Saturday, June 13

Saturday, Sept. 19

Saturday, Oct. 10

Saturday, Nov. 21

Saturday, Dec. 12

The cost is $25 for AARP members and $30 for nonmembers. Those interested in attending should bring a check payable to “AARP” on the day of the class. Cash will not be accepted. Attendees should bring their driver’s license and a bagged lunch. AARP members should also bring their membership cards.

AARP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocates for people age 50 and older. Its mission is to help people choose how they live as they age, strengthen communities and promote issues that matter most to families, including health care, financial security and personal fulfillment.
