On March 6, Herricks HS seniors in the Spanish Language Immersion Program visited Denton Avenue Elementary School to help strengthen connections between language and literacy across grade levels.
During the visit, the high school students selected a Spanish book of their choice and read it aloud to elementary students. Following the read‑aloud experience, the seniors led interactive, literacy‑based activities that reinforced the story and encouraged active engagement in Spanish language learning.
This longstanding tradition is designed to build meaningful connections between elementary and secondary immersion students. Younger students benefit from seeing the advanced language skills and confidence demonstrated by the seniors, while older students gain valuable leadership experience and the opportunity to reflect on their own language‑learning journeys.
The Herricks High School Spanish Immersion Program continues to foster a strong, supportive community of bilingual learners, encouraging students to develop a lifelong appreciation for language, culture and literacy.
